Coll Blanc Grandvalira
/ Type of project: Store
/ Location: Barcelona
In this case we have reinvented the traditional skateboard store. We wanted it to have a very strong personality, different from the rest. In order to obtain the desired effect, but without losing the identity and the original essence of skate, the store concept was based on two pillars: on the one hand, we wanted to keep the plywood board, which, together with the concrete, is the icon and natural texture of any skate park; and on the other hand, we wanted that the space radiated the urban appearance of the skate’s place of origin. We have used urban art but in its more avant-garde version, showing in this way the cultural influence that the skate has had during the past 30 years.
We have tried to capture that inspiration in urban art by covering the walls with photocopies of a traditional Japanese graphics, creating a very strong visual effect, only softened by the warmth that the wooden containers transmit. At the same time, these containers are exempt, allowing us to change the store in minutes, thanks to their casters. This is essential in such a small place has given fast stock turnover.
In short, we wanted to pay homage to all those who have made skate a more cultural than sports reference, one that has influenced many of us both in our personal and professional lives.
